Definition of a ‘Yum Pot’ and Question; “…what exactly is shilajit?”

Yum Pot (Variation Number 245)

Definition of a ‘Yum Pot’ - something that looks anything like the picture above but tastes ‘yum’ and is full of ‘good stuff’ ;)

What is Shilajit? - I use it every day and now you want to know what it is – next you might be trying it for yourself ;) Shilajit is a full spectrum nutritional substance from the Himalayan mountains- It is thought to be comprised of broken-down carbons from ancient rain forests, sandwiched between rock strata as the Himalayan mountains were formed 50-100 million years ago, and now in spring, a black substance oozes out between rock strata in the high Himalaya, where it is harvested and dried into a powder. There is a whole pristine eco-system in Shilajit! and it is said to be excellent as a garden soil additive for minerals and plant nutrition. It was discovered when the folk of the Himalayas saw the monkeys licking it and they were not your average dull monkeys – in fact they seemed to have super monkey powers…

Helps accelerate processes of protein and nucleic acid metabolism and stimulates energy providing reactions. Counteracts Diabetes and regulates the blood sugar level. Purifies blood, improves functioning of pancreas and strengthens digestion. Reduces fat, dissolves tumours, and counteracts thirst. Promotes the movement of minerals, especially calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium into muscle tissue and bone. Stimulates the immune system and improves restoration (recovery) after exercise. Increases levels of growth hormone in diabetic patients and is a potent anti-ulcer agent. Conclusion: Shilajit is a humus rich blackish-brown substance, which is very useful in many diseases and serves as a potent tonic. But its source of origin is still under controversy. Traditionally it is also considered to increase virility, cure diabetes, and in Ayurvedic medicine system of India, it is used against various diseases…. more here.

Some great questions answered and a bonkers – bonanza food diary!

I’ve had some questions and the anonymous lovely lady has said it is coolio to blog them!
Yay!

Hi Wee Yogi!
I hope you’re having a good rest day. I just wanted to ask you a few questions about supplements because I want to make sure that I’m buying the right stuff before I buy it. I usually try to do my research but it’s difficult to figure out what products are best – like chlorella, which I’ll now order in tablet form. However, I wanted to ask if – a) if you have any brand recommendations for MSM and chlorella/spirulina, b) what you think about b12 patches as a form of supplementing b12 intake, and c) are there any supplements which you take that you think are amazing. I am always afraid of being b12 and iron deficient, and when I’m really busy it is hard to monitor (or remember to monitor), my vitamin and mineral intake. However, I try really hard! Currently, I’m eating about 40% – 50% raw depending on the day, and the rest of my food is vegan. I’ve cut down on gluten/grains by about 50% but it won’t be until I get paid that I can splash out on some flax crackers and start experimenting with nori and such.

Ok, so here goes… with many thanks to Steve for reminding me of the proper names of things and where to find them :)

a) Brand recommendations for MSM and chlorella/spirulina –

  • I like MSM from ‘Omica’ (easy to get in the USA) or if you can’t find that brand in the UK, get it from and learn more HERE
  • Chlorella – GOOD QUESTION! This is not only about the brand but about the type. Many kinds on the market are redundant because the body cannot absorb them. Look out for ‘pyrenoidosa’ strain chlorella. These guys do the yummiest version but I know Real Foods sell a brand of ‘pyrenoidosa’ too.
  • I like THIS SPIRULINA from Healthforce Nutritionals, it is good quality and tastes good (to me!) add it to your smoothy if you don’t like the taste.
(NB; watch out for ‘bulk bin’ supplements – these are often cheaply bought by the ton and badly stored then re-sold at a high price after they have been sitting in a warehouse for months!!!)

b) What I think about b12 patches as a form of supplementing b12 intake -

I don’t bother but if you do need B12 (i.e. if you know you are major deficient – some people are and it is very dangerous to be) the only kind we can uptake is called methylcobalamin. This is the form that exists in nature. It is pre-methylated therefore ‘ready’ for your body to use. If you are going to get a B12 shot BE SURE it is this kind and NOT the other which contains CYANIDE!!! No kidding!
The details and more reasons why (too much to go into here) is in this amazing article.

c) Supplements which I take which I think are amazing -

***None***
(Unless you see bee pollen and blue green algae as supplementation? In My Humble Opinion – these are foods and could be a main staple of the planets diet rather than cows and stuff like that ;) I guess MSM is the only exception – I have never taken it but my good friends who have taken it or do take it say it has changed their lives!)

…I have never taken any kind of supplements in my time as a ‘raw foodist’ or vegan.
I had a B12 shot in Arizona when I was there just for a laugh to see how I felt and didn’t feel any different.
I think I might get my B12 from bee pollen, maybe from the bugs I don’t wash off my lettuces, maybe the spirulina or even nori seaweed???
…I don’t know but I feel good!
…I do miss my blue green algae though (a.k.a ‘Brain On’, ‘Crystal Manna’,  AFA; from ‘Lake Klamath’) and I can feel it by the lack of juice in my joints (they are clicking a bit).
I try not to worry about stuff until I feel like there is something missing, then I look into how to fix it.
When I was ‘vegan’ I was tired and sluggish – close to ‘M.E’ feelings (chronic fatigue) – so that’s when I cleaned my body (gave it a FULL service) and went raw.

Hope this helps you all!

Remember ~ I am me ~ you are you ~ there is not a perfect formula ~ listening to your body is the key.

*LOVE*

Stewart’s 7 day juice feast & blog

I first met Stewart in a yoga class.
I remember him asking me if I knew why he couldn’t jump forwards to standing with his knees together, why his hips were so tight and why nothing was changing…
At the time we couldn’t figure out what to do using yoga as the sole route through this issue.

Recently, Stewart decided to seek out some advice from Steve of  ‘Radiant Health’ Stewart is sharing his recent progress via his daily blog!

Click here to learn more about Radiant Health

Stewart is not lazy, he has put many years into his yoga practice but it seems something was missing.
As you will read from his blog (link below) he suffers from inflammatory arthritis which manifests itself in reduced range of motion in his spine and hip flexors.
Steve (Radiant Health) has put Stewart on a 7-day juice feast and cleanse he wants to find out if a sluggish bowel can generate an inflammatory process.
Stewart says:

“PS this is not just my whacky idea – there is a school of thought in mainstream medicine regarding what’s known as “enteropathic arthropathies” – which is a fancy term which means a leaky or sluggish bowel can cause antigens to seep into the blood stream resulting in an inflammatory response.
I have never done a juice feast / cleanse. However, I believe that a person can positively influence their health by making the right choices and being mindful – thinking about where your food comes from and making informed choices about what to put in your mouth.
I made the decision to seek out help to educate myself…”

I’m really pleased Stewart said it was okay for me to share his story with & you can follow his journey here:

***Stewarts Blog***

When I asked Stewart if I could share his inspiring blog with you in the attempt to big him up for his amazing-ness he said:

“ha ha bigging me up is not something a shy Buddhist would want…but go ahead and post, I have nothing to hide.  You can say that one of my motivations is to open my body – to enhance my yoga :)

So, check it out!

Thank goodness I am not the only one sharing such a crazy looking food diary!
I for one would not have changed my lifestyle if it didn’t truly work – I believe that yoga asana on it’s own is not enough if you want radiant health!
Often, by doing yoga asana (the physical poses) we are lead to the more deeper aspects of living life to our fullest.
Yoga is wholeness which means it encompasses every part of your life – including what you put in your mouth… and what comes out the other end too!
Nice!
